The seasons are changing, and so should your skin care. To make sure you treat any damage summer has done to your skin and prep for fall, incorporate the following steps into your autumn beauty routine.
Sun exposure, air conditioning, and chlorine from swimming pools can seriously dry out your skin. Getting rid of all those dead skin cells is one of the best ways to achieve fresh and radiant skin for the fall. To that end, we recommend exfoliating at least once a week. There are several options when it comes to skin exfoliants, we recommend sticking to natural and organic options, 4 in particular we love and recommend: Salt, Sugar and Açaí Seed or Pulp. Each one of these exfoliants can be used to address different skin concerns and needs. A great option for super sensitive skin that can be used for gentle exfoliation of face and body is the Brightening & Exfoliating Mud, the combination of Açaí Seed Powder, an anti-oxidant rich, biodegradable exfoliant and Amazonian White Clay, removes dead skin while it evens out your skin tone, smoothes and rejuvenates both your face and your body. If you are looking for a stronger exfoliating agent, try Salt, Sugar, or 100% Pure Açaí Pulp Powder.
Exfoliating with Sugar
Sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So when you apply products with sugar or sugar derivatives, they’ll actually help hydrate your skin and keep moisture within. It is also a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin and breaks down the “glue” that bonds skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin. Glycolic acid is typically used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Sugar’s small particles make an excellent topical exfoliant, Sugar scrubs also have a few benefits over salt scrubs. For one, small sugar granules are generally gentler than salt; two, because of sugar’s natural humectants properties, these scrubs are more hydrating than salt scrubs, which can strip skin of natural oils. A high-sugar diet won’t do your skin many favors, but incorporating it into your topical beauty routine can deliver some pretty sweet results. The Red Clay Sugar Scrub uses organic sugar, but is also formulated with superfruit oils and Brazilian Red Kaolin Clay for ultra-silky skin and anti-aging properties.
Exfoliating with Salt
Sea salt is a natural detoxifier, as the salt absorbs the toxins from the skin. The abrasive action associated with salt scrubs invigorates the skin and helps to improve circulation. Improved circulation gives skin a natural glow. Scrubbing with salt also helps to remove bacteria from the skin and unclog pores. Salt has antiseptic qualities, and when applied to the skin it may help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation along with any itching and pain associated with bacterial-related skin disease. Exfoliating with a salt scrub not only removes dead skin cells and increases circulation, but it also encourages regeneration. Sloughing away dead skin cells promotes the growth of healthy new cells. This regeneration process tightens the skin, giving it a firmer and younger-looking appearance. Skin regeneration also reduces skin discoloration, evening out skin tone and improving texture. The Red Clay Salt Scrub is also formulated with superfruit oils and Brazilian Red Kaolin Clay.
If you like to keep it simple and pure, you can go for a single ingredient exfoliant that you can simply mix with water and/or your favorite oil, such a coffee scrub or the Açaí Pulp Powder Scrub.
Getting a massage is another great way to eliminate dead skin cells. Massaging produces friction that rids your skin of its top layer, which is made up of the dead cells that make your skin look unhealthy. With these cells gone, the fresh cells underneath can emerge, ready to absorb all the vitamins and antioxidants you have to offer — such as those provided by the superfruit powered Radiance & Renewal Oil. Have a loved one massage this oil into your skin to reap the benefits of buriti, maracujá, Brazil nut, babassu, and plant stem cells, including softer, brighter, and healthier skin.
Massage will also remove impurities, improve your color and tone, moisturize, and increase your blood flow to give your skin a natural glow.
A holistic approach to skin care is the best approach, meaning that you have to treat your skin from without and within. Drinking water is crucial to keeping your skin healthy — in fact, if you’re not drinking enough water, you may be wasting your time with any skin treatments you’re using. Water helps keep skin hydrated and improves your complexion, and even combats skin disorders such as wrinkles, eczema, and psoriasis, which can get worse in the summer. You can also drench your skin with a strong and active Mist. The anti-pollution facial mist uses 12 different active ingredients that help to increase water production at the skin cell level while also providing an illumination boost.
A light lotion may suffice in the summer, when the air tends to be more humid, but you’ll need to use something richer and thicker to keep your skin hydrated in the dry and cool fall air. The Brazilian Glow Beauty Butter is a great option. Butters tend to be thicker than most other moisturizers, and ours contains five superfruit ingredients to heal cracked skin, keep skin smooth and hydrated, and repair your skin’s moisture barrier to prevent moisture from evaporating and keep germs and bacteria out.
For optimal moisture absorption, apply the butter right after showering, when your skin is still damp.
