With more antioxidants than blueberries or strawberries, the ‘Beauty Berry’ açai is this month’s featured superfruit. As an ingredient in skincare, açai has sometimes been compared to pomegranate as another antioxidant-rich fruit. They are probably the most talked about superfoods in the health food industry, and they also bring similar benefits of skin protection and anti-aging when used in skincare.
Comparing the Nutrients in Açai vs. Pomegranate
Pomegranate and açai share a high content of several vitamins and nutrients, although açai actually has more antioxidant content than pomegranate.

Açai & Pomegranate Benefits for Skin
Most of the skincare benefits of using açai are also shared by pomegranate, so it may come down to a matter of preference or access for which you decide to use for your skincare regimen.
Healing: Açai has been known to treat several of the things that contribute to early signs of aging with the skin, including reducing the appearance of stretch marks, wrinkles and acne scars, while also treating discoloration from sun spots or hyperpigmentation. The fatty acid contents in pomegranate help to soothe the skin and reduce inflammation.
Anti-Aging: The compounds found in açai are known to help promote skin cell regeneration, therefore helping to prevent the early signs of aging. Daily use of skincare products containing açai has been found to help the skin maintain a healthy, youthful glow. The omega-5 fatty acids, zinc, copper and other compounds in pomegranate also stimulate cellular regeneration. Since pomegranate helps lock moisture in at the cellular level, its use in skincare can help maintain a more ageless look.
Protective: While both pomegranate and açai are high in antioxidants, açai has almost double the amounts and therefore offers more extensive or longer-lasting protection. Vitamin C is prevalent in both superfruits, and açai has additional protective power from other antioxidants including vitamins A and E. Meanwhile, pomegranate contains antioxidants like punicalagins, hydrolysable tannins and derivatives of ellagic acid to protect the skin, and the oil also offers natural protection from the sun. Pomegranate stimulates the keratinocytes, which protect the skin from environmental damage. This is important because over time, things like UV radiation, pollutants and other stressors compromise the skin’s natural protective barrier. Keratinocyte stimulation helps protect the skin more effectively, thus preventing or postponing the signs of aging such as pigmentation, fine lines and age spots.
