All About Buriti Oil

Buriti, which is scientifically known as Mauritia flexuosa, is an Amazonian palm tree that produces a fruit that contains an oil that has been used for thousands of years to add moisture and shine to hair and fight aging of the skin. The Brazilians know the buriti tree as the “Tree of Life” since its oil is a natural fountain of youth for skin and hair.

What is Buriti Oil?

Buriti oil is extracted from the fruit of its tree, then ground and cold pressed so that it preserves its valuable nutrients. Although carrots are known for their beta-carotene content, buriti oil is actually the richest source of this carotenoid, which causes its orange-red color.

Benefits of Buriti Oil

In addition to beta-carotene, buriti oil is rich in some great vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, including vitamins C and E. The vitamin E content helps protect the skin from the appearance of aging as well as the effects of stress, thus engaging an effective anti-aging benefit that is complimented by the firming benefit from the oil’s essential fatty acids. Vitamin E also works with vitamin C to be a strong antioxidant and protect the skin against UV rays, by absorbing a portion of the UV spectrum. This also allows the oil to eliminate free radicals, which contribute to skin damage and aging. Finally, the oil is a wonderful emollient that deeply moisturizes the skin. It has a higher content of Vitamin E than Argan oil, which makes it more rejuvenating than Argan oil.
