Guaraná - The Magic Seed of the Amazon

Posted by Valeria Cole

Deep in the Amazon Rainforest, on a plant of large leaves and white flowers, you will find the Guaraná seed. Named after the Amazonian Guarani tribe, the plant finds its origins in the forests of Brazil. According to Brazilian mythology, the first Guaraná plant was grown by a king who planted the eye of a child villager.

What is Guarana?

The Guaraná seed is the fruit of the Guarana plant, and it can be ingested or applied topically. The seed has a multitude of uses, all of which benefit health and wellbeing.

The Guaraná seed is powerful, and the most common use is as a coffee substitute. What many don't know is that Guaraná can also be used topically and works wonders as an anti-aging serum.

Guaraná’s Skincare Benefits

Applied topically, Guaraná is a beautiful anti-aging agent. Due to its theophylline and caffeine components, Guaraná oils and extracts can help tighten and moisturize the skin in a natural and effective way.

It is a vascoconstrictor, which means it reduces puffiness and smooths the skin, creating a youthful glow. Guaraná has anti-aging and toning properties and is often used as a treatment for stretch marks given its theophylline and caffeine components. Caffeine tends to reduce puffiness and create a smoothing effect. By increasing blood flow and increasing the lipolytic effect, it blocks enzymes and decreases triglycerides breakage. This anti-inflammatory impact also makes Guaraná great for delicate and sensitive areas, such as eyes, as caffeine can help temporarily reduce puffiness.

Other Health Benefits of Guaraná

Along with its anti-aging properties, Guaraná also has other wonderful health benefits.

It's Better Than Caffeine

The Guaraná seed has almost twice the amount of caffeine as a regular coffee bean, making it a better choice for those looking for a higher caffeine composition. Because of this high caffeine content, Guaraná has been used to treat migraines, relieve constipation, and promote weight loss.

It's Full of Antioxidants

A study done by São Paulo's Public Health School (FSP-USP), revealed that Guaraná has a higher antioxidant content than green tea. These antioxidants help prevent harmful molecules, and one study determined the antioxidants in Guarana may even be linked to slowing cancer cell growth.

It Prevents Hair Loss

Guaraná is found in many hair products. Due to its particular combination of ingredients, the extract is believed to prevent hair loss.
