How Maracujá Oil Soothes & Treats Skin

Posted by Valeria Cole

The luscious oil produced by the superfruit maracujá, also known as passionfruit, is wonderfully moisturizing for the skin. It’s considered to be a highly effective emollient, since it has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin to soothe and moisturize, while preventing that nourishing moisture from escaping. Maracujá oil is very soothing for dry skin. In my homeland of Brazil we call it “Pure Miracle” for its ability to reduce dryness and oiliness simultaneously for flawless, mattified, healthy looking skin.

The beneficial vitamins and nutrients in maracujá oil include:

  • two halves of a maracuja fruit on a white plateVitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Antioxidants
  • Flavonoids
  • Rioboflavin
  • Iron
  • Niacin
  • Magnesium
  • Phosphorus
  • Copper
  • Potassium
  • Quercetin
  • Fiber
  • Protein

Maracujá oil’s soothing capabilities come from nutrients that promote anti-inflammatory functions. It is full of antioxidants to fight free radicals and sun damage, plus carotenoids and phenols that help repair the skin after sun damage. This also helps prevent the signs of aging, such as fine lines and sun spots. Maracujá oil made from the passion flower is rich with quercetin, which is one of the most powerfully protective compounds found in nature.

The richness of linoleic acid in maracujá oil helps treat acne-prone skin, since people with this type of skin have been found to have low levels of the acid. This causes their skin to produce a pore-clogging oily secretion, resulting in acne. So, by applying a daily oil like maracujá, with its higher linoleic acid contents will help to balance the skin’s production of oil, leading to fewer breakouts. Maracujá oil has been found to contain 72.6% linoleic acid, making it one of the best natural sources for this essential fatty acid.

The oil is excellent for daily use for all types of skin, since it helps promote and stimulate collagen production, speeding up the healing process for injuries or blemishes and rejuvenating overall.

Maracujá oil is one of the powerful ingredients in our everyday Beauty Butter for use on both the face and the body, as well as our effective Multi-Tasking Oil and our brand new Shimmering Superfruit Oil, When in Rio. Give it a try and enjoy the soothing, anti-aging and acne-treating effects of one of our many favorite Brazilian superfruits from Amazônia, as we Brazilian natives refer to our beloved Amazon Rainforest!

Love yourself, find your joy, share your passion.

Cheers, Val
