In Rio, the land of endless summer, nothing is better than enjoying life in the water, so that is the reason why we are champions when it comes to many water sports. Brazilians, specially Cariocas, are raised in the aquatic environment: surfing, body boarding, swimming, stand up paddling, canoeing, kayaking, wake boarding, jet skiing and many others.
Our most recognized water sport is surfing - we got world famous as the "Brazilian Storm" because of the new generation of surf, the term caught due to the series of impressive results of Gabriel Medina, Adriano de Souza and Filipe Toledo - athletes that were highly successful in international competitions.
Other sports of various countries also became popular, such as Hawaiian Canoeing: early in the morning you can see a group of people leaving to go canoeing in the salt water of Urca Beach or at the Guanabara Bay. Also, stand up paddle has won our hearts. There are many companies in Rio that rent or guard boards for you, so check out the Rio sea life.
If we don't have an equipment while at the beach, we just body surf! All you need to practice the sport is your disposition, it is not necessary to catch perfect waves or have a ton of experience, the intention is just to have some fun.
While in Rio, you don't have any excuse to not try one of our many water sports , the warm weather is reason enough to be in the water.
