Teadora Beauty - Winner of ECO Beauty Award for Sustainability Excellence

by Valeria Cole |  | 1 comment

Here’s the scoop! The Beauty Insider Awards recognize the most innovative beauty products of the year. Winners of the award are selected by CEW’s U.S. members – 6,000+ beauty industry professionals who know beauty’s best.

This year Teadora won the ECO Beauty Award for Sustainability Excellence.

We are so excited to share this win with all of you! As a small woman-owned indie (*) beauty company we had set our sights on this award, and we worked hard toward our goal. So, winning this year is very special to us. It is such an honor to have our work recognized by such amazing team of beauty professionals.

Growing up in Brazil, my mother always used natural remedies from the Amazon Rainforest to care for her skin and hair. As a young girl, I watched, listened and learnt from her and my Grandmother. They made a huge impact on me, with their passions for natural skincare and social responsibility. This is what led me to here, and realizing my life-long dream of creating Teadora. My mother passed away a few years ago and, if she were here I know she would be very proud of us all.

It is my deepest hope that we can share the bounty of the Amazon rainforest and the wisdom of its people while helping to protect and preserve this world treasure for generations to come, and in turn give back to the communities we live and do business in.

You are making a difference today, with your choices for natural skincare. Our work will grow, we want to achieve more than a direct impact, and hopefully together we can help be an example to other companies, and consumers, about how different choices can make a difference.

So, what kind of things is Teadora doing to make them worthy of wining the 2017 ECO Beauty Award for Sustainability Excellence?

We use sustainable and restorative extraction methods: beach harvesting from the mouth of the Amazon, hand-dig clays, fill holes, plant new native trees. Free of sulfates, plastics, parabens, and petros.

We work with communities and indigenous peoples who are committed to wild harvesting, providing more money for a sustainable forest. We collaborate with local women-led gathering co-ops to ensure money stays in the community versus brokers; the result: a higher, more consistent income stream. Adherence to the Nine Principles of Fair Trade written into our operating charter.

We gather and produce by hand; materials are air-dried, hand-pressed/treated, thus reducing the need for electricity and gas. Fifty percent of processing by hand, close to the source. Forty percent of partner office space now run by solar, increasing goal percentage of production by cold-filtering techniques. Recycled husks and seeds to provide the exfoliating agents.

We plant thousands of trees; work with communities and indigenous peoples who are committed to wild harvesting, providing more money for a sustainable forest.

We educate with our trademarked “Earth for You.You for Earth” program which helps local communities tell stories and develop socially responsible youth service projects. Participate in Fair Trade and green living discussions; author articles to educate consumers on how choice makes a difference.

We give back, one percent of our sales go towards rainforest restoration projects and our goal is bold, but every time you buy a product, we get closer to Replanting 1 Million Trees & Saving 75K Acres of land in the Amazon rainforest. To put it into perspective - that is an area equivalent to 88 NYC Central Parks. Last year, we worked with Purdue University and International Conservation Fund of Canada to open the first ever audio-visual lab in Kayapo land in the Amazon rainforest, a project focused on teaching movie making to the young I the Kayapo tribe so they can effectively preserve elderly traditions for generatios to come. This year, in my mother’s honor, we will be opening the “Teadora” Jeanette De Angelis Center with SafePort Initiative in New York to support the education and recovery of human trafficking victims.

In Portuguese, “Teadora” means adores you. At Teadora, we show our love for the world with natural and organic products made with novel rainforest ingredients. Our products let you experience the bounty and magic of the Amazon – while helping to improve the lives of the communities where we live and do business.

Thank you for being part of Teadora and supporting our indie natural beauty brand!  Given the amazing technology behind natural ingredients today, I believe being natural is just table stakes for any company that want to offer products that are good for you, but our mission is to go way beyond being good for you, we believe companies should have major social and environmental impact and also do good for the world and the planet.

Love yourself, find your joy, share your passion.
